Join us in welcoming Dr. François Mercier as the new Co-Director of the CIP

Dr. Mercier is an Assistant Professor in the ɬ�﷬ Department of Medicine, with appointments in the Divisions of Hematology and Experimental Medicine, where he has served since July 2017. He earned his medical degree at ɬ�﷬ and completed his training in Internal Medicine and Hematology there as well.

From 2010 to 2017, Dr. Mercier trained as a post-doctoral fellow and instructor in medicine at the Harvard Stem Cell Institute and Massachusetts General Hospital, where his research focused on the interactions between leukemic cells and the bone marrow stroma using in vivo CRISPR/Cas9 screening.

Today, his laboratory at the Lady Davis Institute is focused on understanding how acute myeloid leukemia (AML) develops resistance to existing therapies. Using a combination of mouse models, patient-derived xenografts, and CRISPR technology, his team works to identify novel therapeutic targets — including their recent discovery of the mRNA helicase eIF4A as a vulnerability in AML cells. His lab is also exploring nucleic acid therapeutics to expand the range of "druggable targets" in leukemia.
