Social Impact, Collaboration & Outreach
The E-IDEA Community Engagement Program encompasses a multi-phase approach to growing authentic, collaborative, and sustainable community relationships both internal and external to the Faculty of Engineering. Through diverse forms of connection and learning, we support members of the Faculty of Engineering in recognizing their social impact as design professionals, using their strengths to take consistent actions toward social justice and inclusion, and developing essential skills for effective communication and outreach.
The program philosophy is captured by our SCOPE framework鈥擲ocial Impact, Community Building, and Outreach Partnerships in Engineering鈥攚hich centers participatory action, shared decision-making, and reciprocity between students, staff, faculty, and community partners.
People
Considering social ecosystems holistically from the outset, including but not limited to engineering and design students, staff, cross-faculty groups, community groups, underserved youth, and their milieus.
Process
Investing in participatory approaches that enhance community capacity through open information sharing, co-creation of objectives and initiatives, and continuous integration of feedback.
Purpose
Creating a culture of mutual trust and care where participants are supported to build knowledge, skills, and strategies that positively impact communities and the environment.
