We are excited to announce the launch of three new awards designed to celebrate excellence and commitment within EBOH at ɬÀï·¬. These awards recognize the contributions of faculty and administrative staff to our department’s mission.
One award will be given each year, rotating between awards in the following order.
2025: Teaching Excellence Award
2026: Administrative Support Excellence Award
2027: Research Excellence Award for Assistant Professors

Timeline and review process
The Faculty and Student Awards Committee will review nominations and select the recipients for these awards. Nominations are to be submitted using the . For the Teaching Excellence and Administrative Support Awards, please submit a 1-page letter that addresses the award criteria outlined below. For the Research Excellence Award for Assistant Professors, applicants should submit a research paper published within the last three years, accompanied by a cover letter explaining its contribution to and impact on the field.

Eligibility and Criteria
1. Teaching Excellence Award
This award recognizes outstanding teaching contributions made by faculty members with a primary or secondary appointment in EBOH. We recommend that nominators consider broad criteria for this award, including:
Commitment to Inclusive and Effective Teaching Practices
- Use of inclusive teaching methods that foster an engaging learning environment for students of diverse backgrounds and abilities, especially for the core sequence classes which have a diversity of learners.
Evidence of Impact on Student Learning
- Demonstrate tangible contributions to student learning, such as improvements in student performance, student progression, or successful mentoring outcomes.
Contributions to the Broader Teaching Mission in EBOH
- Contribute to the department's teaching mission by taking on challenging courses, developing new curricula, or stepping in to address teaching gaps when needed.
- Contribute to supporting junior colleagues and trainees through mentorship or otherwise enhancing teaching culture in the department
Contributions to a Learning Environment Beyond the Classroom
- Cultivate a culture of learning and discovery in the EBOH community, across all roles and throughout the career lifecycle.
These criteria can be supported by a range of information, including examples provided in nomination materials by the nominee, nominator(s), students, or the department chair, classroom observations by colleagues, student course reviews, and course evaluation scores.
2. Administrative Support Excellence Award
This award celebrates the dedication and contributions of EBOH administrative staff, recognizing members who go above and beyond in supporting the mission of the department and keeping things running smoothly. The criteria recognize staff who make meaningful contributions to the success of the department, facilitating our research and learning missions, and fostering a supportive and effective workplace, including:
Exceptional Service and Initiative
- Demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding service to faculty, students, and other staff.
- Taking proactive steps to solve problems, improve processes, or address challenges, showing initiative and leadership in their role.
Positive Impact on Department Operations
- Contributions that have led to improved efficiency, organization, or overall functioning of the department
Professionalism and Dedication
- Consistently displaying a high level of professionalism, reliability, and dedication to their role.
- Going beyond their typical responsibilities to support the department, demonstrating a willingness to help others and contribute to a positive work environment.
3. Research Excellence Award for Assistant Professors
This award recognizes the impactful research contributions of early-career faculty members with a primary or secondary appointment in EBOH. Applicants are asked to submit a research paper published within the last three years, accompanied by a cover letter explaining its contribution to and impact on the field. This award provides early-career faculty with a platform for recognition before achieving tenure, which itself serves as a significant milestone for research accomplishment. Tenure-Track and CAS faculty with a primary or secondary appointment in EBOH are eligible for this award.
