Facility for Electron Microscopy Research (FEMR) – Usage Guidelines

The Facility for Electron Microscopy Research (FEMR) operates shared instrumentation under the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences to support and advance scientific research across a wide range of disciplines, including life and biomedical sciences, environmental sciences, materials science and engineering, and the physical sciences. The FEMR is open to all researchers conducting non‑classified research, both within ɬ﷬ and from external institutions.

User fees apply to all individuals to help offset the costs associated with providing and maintaining advanced scientific instrumentation and technical expertise.

Acknowledgment Requirement

Researchers who use FEMR infrastructure must include the following statement in any resulting publications:

“This work made use of the ɬ﷬ Facility for Electron Microscopy Research.”

Policies for Using FEMR Research Infrastructure

User Accounts and Reservations
  • Users may not share usernames, passwords, or reserve/enable instruments on behalf of another person.
  • Instruments must be both reserved and enabled by the individual who will be operating them.
Conduct in Shared Research Spaces
  • Do not move, disturb, or modify another researcher’s work or samples without explicit permission from FEMR staff or from the researcher themselves.
