First Generation Students

What is a First-Generation Student?

At ɬÀï·¬, a First-Generation student is someone whose parents or caregivers did not complete a four-year, post-secondary degree either in Canada, the United States, or abroad. This also includes students who are currently or were previously youth in care.

1st-Gen students bring unique strengths and perspectives to university life, but they may also encounter specific challenges that other university students (who have access to intergenerational knowledge) do not. These can include navigating the unfamiliar university environment, experiencing feelings of imposter syndrome or not belonging, and managing financial pressures.

At ɬÀï·¬, we want First-Generation (1st-Gen) students to flourish. We understand some of the challenges you may face during your studies and want to provide the support that you may need. A host of resources and student services are available to you as you embark on this journey. Please know that these resources exist, and that our goal is to make your transition to university life at ɬÀï·¬ as smooth as possible. We are so excited that you are here!
