Guidelines on change of supervisor

Supervisory relationships are the backbone of graduate student success. All thesis students must have a supervisor to make progress towards their thesis research, which is necessary to remain in their program. Most graduate students do not change supervisors during their program. In some instances, however, a supervisory change may become necessary.

GPS has developed comprehensive guidelines for departments on handling situations where a change of supervisor may be required. The guidelines provide detailed steps that must be followed when a change in supervisor is envisaged. Note that a change in supervisor should only be considered after all other avenues have been exhausted.
