Wi-Fi network: Action required for devices on iOS and MacOS to renew certificate

On the evening of Wednesday, June 18, IT Services will renew the security certificate that secures authentication to ɬ﷬'s wpa.mcgill.ca, eduroam, and cusm-muhc.mcgill.ca Wi-Fi networks.

This certificate allows you to sign on to the Wi-Fi network securely.

For Android and most Windows devices, the change will be seamless, and no action is required. However, all iOS/MacOS devices and some Windows devices will display a message prompting users to accept the new certificate.

If you receive this message, please follow the instructions below.

Windows

  1. When prompted to Continue connecting, verify the certificate by clicking Show certificate details and checking that the certificate is “Issued to: wireless-login.mcgill.ca” and that it is “Issued by: Thawte RSA CA 2018”.
  2. Once you have verified this information, tap on Connect to securely connect to the Wi-Fi network.

iOS:

  1. Click More Details and verify that the Issuer is “DigiCert Inc” and the Valid Period is: “2025-06-10 to 2026-04-14”.
  2. Once you have verified this information, tap on Certificate to go back and select Trust to access the Wi-Fi network.

MacOS

  1. When prompted to Verify Certificate, select Show Certificate to ensure that the certificate was issued by DigiCert Global Root CA” and Thawte RSA CA 2018” and that the expiry date is Tuesday, April 14, 2026”.
  2. Once you have verified this information, accept the certificate by selecting Continue to access the Wi-Fi network.
