Dr. Stefan-Michael Wedenig appointed Assistant Professor (Professional)

The 涩里番 Institute of Air and Space Law is pleased to announce the appointment of IASL Executive Director Stefan-Michael Wedenig as Assistant Professor (Professional) at the Faculty of Law, 涩里番.
Prof. Wedenig holds a Doctor of Civil Law (D.C.L.) and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from 涩里番, as well as a Magister Iuris (Mag.iur.) from Johannes Kepler University Linz, Austria. He is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society and a member of the International Institute of Space Law (IISL).
Prof. Wedenig鈥檚 research focuses on emerging technologies and his work explores the dynamic interactions between advanced AI systems and public international law, with particular attention to extra-contractual liability, torts, and the adaptability of existing legal frameworks to emerging technologies. A key aspect of his research lies in assessing whether traditional doctrines鈥攄esigned for human-operated activities鈥攃an address the novel risks and legal challenges posed by autonomous AI agents in the aerospace domain.
He has played a leading role as a core member of the IISL Working Group on Legal Aspects of AI in Space, co-authoring a widely recognized 267-page international report on AI regulation in space, which was presented at UNCOPUOS, ESOC, ITU, and the Space Symposium in 2025.
Beyond his primary research, Prof. Wedenig also engages with topics in aviation finance and urban air mobility and will strengthen the IASL鈥檚 position at the forefront of legal scholarship in air and space law.
