This volume is a collection of papers presented at the First Montreal-Ottawa-Toronto-Hamilton workshop in syntax held at McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, on March 2, 2013. This was the first meeting in a series of annual meetings to travel among universities in these four cities. The idea behind the initiative is to create a forum primarily for graduate and undergraduate students to present their work in progress and receive feedback from their peers and faculty from the other institutions in the area. While such a forum exists for students working in phonology and semantics (MOT and TOM), we felt a similar venue was needed for syntax as well.

We would like to acknowledge that the workshop could not have been held if it was not for the generous support from the Department of Linguistics and Languages at McMaster University.
