Arielle

Class of 2028

Languages: English, French, Ghomala’ (Learning)
Education: Health science program (Cegep Gérald-Godin 2021), B.Sc. Occupational Therapy (UQTR 2024)

I never thought I would be able to realize my dream of being admitted to medical school. This goal seemed so far out of my reach. And yet, here I am, now a student ambassador for the class of 2028, living my wildest dream at a university focused on excellence and the success of all. I am Canadian of Cameroonian descent, living and having grown up in Quebec. My community, my family, and my friends are my strength. I am a member of the Canadian Armed Forces Reserve (2022 – present) and a former Air Cadet (2014 – 2020).

I value teamwork and communication, two essential human and social qualities. In addition to my attachment to order and discipline, I have a passion for art in all its forms, whether it's music from here or elsewhere, historical monuments, or painters such as Cornelius Krieghoff. Furthermore, I have a deep love for reading.

I want to make a difference and share knowledge with the various immigrant communities in Montreal. In my opinion, education is the first bridge to support patients. I deeply wish to be part of this chain, particularly with young women who often find themselves in situations of intersectionality due to the complex socio-economic impacts they face.

Feel free to reach out to me and take your chance in medicine.

Claudia

Class of 2028

Languages: French, English, Spanish (novice)
Education: DEC Sciences de la nature (Collège de Bois-de-Boulogne, 2023)

Hi! My name is Claudia, I’m a Med-1 student at the Outaouais Campus, and I’m very happy to be an ambassador this year!

I grew up in Laval and completed my CEGEP studies in Health Sciences at Bois-de-Boulogne College in Montreal before moving to Gatineau to complete the preparatory year in medicine (Med-P).

In my free time, I enjoy doing sports and outdoor activities (swimming, rowing, hiking, etc.), spending time with my family and friends, and cooking. The Outaouais region offers a lot of opportunities for outdoor activities!

I chose to study at ɬ﷬ for the various features of the program, such as the anatomy labs and the transition to clinical practice (TCP). Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about studying medicine or moving to Gatineau, I’d be happy to help!

Brittany

Class of 2028

Languages: French, English, Twi
Education: DEC Health Sciences (Cegep du Vieux-Montreal, 2018), BSc Nursing (ɬ﷬, 2022)

My name is Brittany, and I am honored to serve as a Student Ambassador for the Class of 2028.

I grew up in Laval with Ghanaian parents, which shaped my deep passion for healthcare and community from an early age. After earning my nursing degree at ɬ﷬, I worked as an ICU nurse at the Jewish General Hospital, which allowed me to sharpen my critical care skills. Later, I had the privilege of working with the Cree nation in Chibougamau, deepening my understanding of trauma-informed care and cultural sensitivity.

Beyond my work, I am actively involved in the youth ministry at my church, where I enjoy empowering the next generation. I also have a passion for content creation and love spending time in nature, which helps me connect with God and His creation. When I’m not immersed in my studies, you’ll find me traveling, exploring new cultures, learning languages, and meeting people from different walks of life. I chose ɬ﷬ Medical School for its genuine commitment to inclusivity, where I feel truly welcomed and valued as a person of color.

I know the application process can be stressful, but please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’d be more than happy to support you however I can. Good luck!

Emily

Class of 2028

Languages: English, French
Education: DEC Pure and Applied Sciences (Dawson College 2019), BSc Nursing (ɬ﷬ 2022), Registered Nurse with Prescribing License in Surgical Oncology (The Jewish General Hospital 2024), Research Assistant (The Lady Davis Institute for Medical Research, Ongoing)

My name is Emily, and I am so excited to serve as a student ambassador for the class of 2028! I am so privileged to be a ɬ﷬ medical student and feel even luckier to be able to translate my experiences forward.

I was born and raised in Montreal and have never left – it is truly the greatest city! Prior to medical school, I completed my Bachelor of Science in Nursing here at ɬ﷬, then worked as a nurse in surgical oncology for two years. While studying and working, I also pursued research at the Lady Davis Institute for Medical Research in quality improvement in oncology settings. These experiences allowed me to think critically, problem solve, advocate for myself and for patients, commit myself to others and how to be a member of the interprofessional team, while also realizing that a different role was better suited to my strengths. I decided to shift from the bedside back to the classroom and knew ɬ﷬ medicine was for me based on its renowned reputation, commitment to research, cadaver-based curriculum and diverse community. I am not all healthcare, though! In my spare time, I enjoy reading, listening to podcasts, spinning and barre, seeing my family and friends (especially if food is involved), and completing all the NYT games every day.

Please reach out if you have any questions. I am more than happy to help!

Gleb

Class of 2028

Languages: Russian, French, English, Spanish (novice)
Education: DEC Sciences de la Santé (Cégep Édouard-Montpetit, 2023), Med-P Qualifying Year (Montreal Campus)

My name is Gleb, and I’m a first-year medical student at the Montreal Campus. I’m really looking forward to meeting you all!

I was born in Moscow and lived there until 2014. I moved to Saint-Bruno in the 5th grade and, prior to ɬ﷬, did all my schooling exclusively in French (and Russian). I went into medicine to combine my passion for science and my desire to make a real impact. I also hope to do a lot of research in the future and possibly pursue other graduate degrees.

I play piano, violin, and guitar. I have played extensively in orchestras - performing four times at the Maison Symphonique and once at Star Académie! Now, I have a rock band with some of my friends from school. My favourite band is Rammstein; I have seen them play live twice - once in Milan and once here, in Montreal.

How can I help you? You can contact me for assistance with your transition from Cégep to Med-P or from Med-P to Med-1. I can also help with the faculty’s summer bursary program, which allowed me to participate in some really cool research projects over the summer!

Looking forward to meeting you all!

Hayley

Class of 2028

Languages: English, French, Tagalog (novice)
Education: DEC in Honours Science (John Abbott College, 2021); Bachelor of Rehabilitation Science, Physical Therapy (ɬ﷬, 2024)

My name is Hayley, and I am so honoured to be one of your Student Ambassadors for the Class of 2028! I’m a small-town soul through and through, having spent most of my life in Saint-Lazare, a rural community on the outskirts of Montreal. After moving to the city, I completed a Bachelor of Rehabilitation Science in Physical Therapy at ɬ﷬, through which I strengthened my passion for a career in healthcare.

My decision to apply into medicine was cemented through multiple experiences that supported my interests in rural medicine and palliative care. Medicine, for me, is a medium through which I can honour my cultural roots and advocate for patients to change the face of healthcare.

When I’m done my Anki cards for the day, you can find me doing anything outdoors. My weekends are often spent frantically planning last-minute camping trips or wiping out on the slopes of the Laurentians in the winter.

If you have any questions or concerns about what it means to be in med at ɬ﷬, please feel free to reach out! I’m looking forward to our collective journey in medicine!

Margaryta

Class of 2028

Languages: English, French, Russian, Spanish (casual)
Education: DEC in Sciences, Letters & Arts (Cégep de Trois-Rivières, 2021-2023); Med-P Qualifying Year (ɬ﷬, 2023-2024)

Hi! I’m Margaryta, a member of the MDCM Class of 2028, and I am honored to be one of the student ambassadors for the Faculty of Medicine. I moved to Montreal from Trois-Rivières for my Med-P year, and it has been an exciting journey of learning, adapting, and growing in a city just as dynamic as the program itself.

I have been passionate about healthcare and medicine for as long as I can remember, and ɬ﷬ felt like the ideal place to grow, not only through its strong academic and clinical training, but also through its many opportunities for extracurriculars and community involvement. Coming from a diverse background, I truly value the multicultural environment that both ɬ﷬ and Montreal offer. Being part of such an inclusive and inspiring community, surrounded by engaging professors, supportive peers, and dedicated mentors, makes me genuinely excited for what lies ahead.

Over the years, I have been involved in many areas, from working with newly arrived immigrants to caring for long-term patients in hospitals, as well as joining student clubs during Cégep and Med-P. These experiences have shaped how I see medicine: not just as a science, but as a human connection rooted in trust and compassion.

Outside of academics, I enjoy reading, binge-watching medical or crime dramas, hiking, traveling, or figure skating on Montreal’s outdoor rinks in winter. If you have any questions or are curious about what medical school is really like, I would love to chat. I look forward to meeting you!

Matthew

Class of 2028

Languages: English, French, Spanish (beginner)
Education: DEC in health sciences (Marianopolis, 2023); Biomedical research during the summer at the Lady Davis Institute of the Jewish General Hospital

Hi, my name is Matthew and I am thrilled to be one of the Class of 2028 student ambassadors! Born and raised in Montreal, I grew up on ɬ﷬ campus, from swimming lessons in the Memorial Pool to piano concerts at Tanna Schulich Hall. Now, I am living my dream of studying my first year of medicine on this very same campus.

Before MDCM, I completed my Med-P year, where I had the opportunity to immerse myself in medical research, student initiatives, and campus life. While my path to medicine appears traditional, it is the result of extensive self-reflection over conflicting interests such as my long history of piano and debate. Nonetheless, my personal and family experiences in the medical field have drawn me to this challenging yet infinitely rewarding profession. I am also the first in my family to pursue medicine, so if you have any questions about whether medicine is the right choice for you, I would be more than happy to share my experiences and perspective!

Outside of medicine, I love discovering new cafes for matcha lattes, attending cultural festivals, or being in nature. When not outside, I play piano and listen to my growing vinyl collection while learning languages or reading. While I could rant about Donna Tartt’s books endlessly, especially The Goldfinch, I am especially passionate about health advocacy; I work with Hema Quebec to diversify the stem cell registry, fundraise for a cancer research, and sit on a Quebec medical student Global Health counsel. These opportunities are truly what drew to me to ɬ﷬, helping me become the best scholar, leader, and well-rounded individual possible.

Princesse

Class of 2028

Languages: French, English, Spanish (novice)
Education: B.Sc Biochemistry and Medecine molecular (U. MTL 2023)

Hi, my name is Princesse, and I am honored to be a student ambassador. I was born in Cameroon but grew up in Montreal. Before starting medical school, I completed a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry at the University of Montreal and worked for a year in a COVID diagnostic laboratory at Charles Le Moyne Hospital. My passion for medicine began when I was young, inspired by my father’s dedication to his patients and to helping those around him.

While working at Charles Le Moyne Hospital, my desire to pursue medicine deepened, as I realized it offers a perfect balance between scientific expertise and meaningful interactions with others. Studying medicine at ɬ﷬ is an incredible opportunity, surrounded by amazing students and faculty from diverse regions across Canada and beyond.

It is truly an honor to be part of ɬ﷬, where diversity, bilingualism, and networking shape the beauty of this university. I’m happy to answer any questions you might have—feel free to reach out! Best of luck to everyone!"

Nasri

Class of 2028

Languages: English, French, Arabic
Education: DEC Health sciences (Marianopolis, 2017); B.Sc. Physiology (ɬ﷬ 2020); M.Sc. Physiology (ɬ﷬ 2022). Two years of neuroscience research at the Sharp Lab at ɬ﷬.

My name is Nasri and I'm really looking forward to connecting with future applicants like you!

I am originally Syrian, but grew up in Dubai. I moved to Montreal when I was 17 to attend CEGEP and have been here ever since! The winters weren't enough to scare me away. On the other hand, they’ve actually become one of my favourite parts of living here.

Since CEGEP, I’ve done a Bachelor’s in Physiology, a Master’s in Physiology and worked for 2 years as a Research Assistant, all at ɬ﷬. Safe to say, I know my way around this campus.

As someone with a bit of an unorthodox path to medicine, I can relate to the unique challenges some mature applicants may be going through, and would be happy to chat more about this.

Throughout the application process, I really valued talking to ɬ﷬ medical students and asking questions about the curriculum and what medical school was actually like. Would love to pay that forward.

Outside of school, I really like to cook, keep fit and exercise with friends. Right now I'm really into rock-climbing so if ever you want to connect over a bouldering session, let me know!

Best of luck with the admissions process!

Carolynn

Class of 2028

Languages: English, French, Italian (novice), German (learning)
Education: DEC Honours Health Sciences (Vanier College, 2020); B.Sc. Honours Behavioural Neuroscience with a minor in Multidisciplinary Studies in Science (Concordia University, 2024)

Hi there! My name is Carolynn; I am born and raised in Montreal and have lived everywhere from the West Island to the East End of the city.

Growing up, I witnessed firsthand the importance of healthcare through the experiences of ill loved ones, which planted the seed of a future career in medicine. That seed grew into a true calling after seeing moments of injustice within Quebec’s healthcare system. For me, being part of the next generation of physicians means not only caring for patients but also advocating for them and mentoring those who come after us.

Alongside collegiate and undergraduate coursework, my research and extracurricular activities deepened my curiosity for the human condition and the importance of research it. These passions have been fostered with the opportunities offered at ɬ﷬, from research that can directly benefit patient care, to mentorship, and the opportunity to work with peers with similar interests.

While medicine is a central part of my life, I think it’s just as important to share the things that keep me balanced outside of it. I love staying active—whether that’s circuit training, yoga or running. I am also an avid reader but since starting medical school, I’ve adapted my love of reading into audiobooks during commutes (multitasking at its finest!).

When I was applying, I found it incredibly valuable to hear from students about their experiences and I hope to be that same resource for prospective applicants now—so please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions!

Aubin

Class of 2028

Languages: French, English, Lingala, Tshiluba, Swahili
Education: DEC in Nursing (Cégep régional de Lanaudière); B.Sc. in Nursing Science (Laurentian University)

Originally from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, I have been living in Canada for over twenty years, where I have built both my family life and my career in the field of healthcare. Before beginning my medical studies, I worked as a nurse, then as a clinical nurse, a teaching assistant in nursing science (UQO), and as an officer in the Canadian Armed Forces.

These experiences have deeply heightened my awareness of the importance of service, leadership, and compassion in healthcare. My journey—from caring for vulnerable patients to training future professionals—has given me a humanistic and holistic vision of medicine and has encouraged me to pursue medical studies in order to serve my community, particularly visible minorities, in contexts requiring special care.

Today, as a second-year medical student and Faculty ambassador, I hope to inspire people from diverse backgrounds to believe in their dreams, no matter the obstacles. I am convinced that medicine is, above all, a commitment of the heart and a calling to serve others.

“Serve with humility, learn with passion, and inspire by example.”

Jessica

Class of 2028

Languages: English, French, German
Education: DEC Sciences, Lettres et Arts (Cégep de l’Outaouais Campus Gabrielle-Roy 2020), Med-P Qualifying Year (Montreal Campus)

My name is Jessica and, like many fellow students, I sometimes pinch myself — never quite believing I get to call ɬ﷬ my academic home. Growing up in Gatineau, my hometown roots and the steady support of family, friends, and peers keep me grounded wherever I go. Early patient experiences, from oncology to palliative care, taught me that medicine’s heart lies in being present: small acts of kindness and moments of connection that ripple beyond the clinic. It's the authenticity and genuine connections in each encounter that keep this path vibrant and rewarding - reminding me daily of my "why" – and making it an even greater honour to serve as a Student Ambassador for the Class of 2028.

I was drawn to medicine for its balance of scientific rigor and compassion, and ɬ﷬ for its rich mentorship and sense of community. The encouragement of mentors, faculty, and peers showed me that growth happens through support — and that nobody succeeds alone. These lessons inspire me to pay it forward — leading peer workshops, guiding new students, and cheering others on.

Outside of the library (ask me for the best study nooks!), you’ll find me marathon training as a proud Strava enthusiast. I also recharge on spin bikes, thrifting, drawing, or hiking trails near and far when I need a reset. With a keen interest for surgery, I often think back to childhood summers helping build my family’s home - an experience that sparked my love for working with my hands, teamwork, and creating something lasting.

As a “professional yapper”, I’m always up for conversations – preferably over a good cappuccino – about medicine, adventures, or life’s winding routes on and off the trail.

Reach out anytime!

Dhiya

Class of 2028

Languages: English, French, Spanish (conversational level)
Education: French Baccalaureate (Collège Stanislas de Montréal, 2023), Med-P Qualifying Year (Montreal Campus)

Hi everyone, my name is Dhiya, and I am delighted to serve as one of the Student Ambassadors of the 2028 MDCM class.

I was born in Quebec City but lived my whole life in Montreal. From ages 4 to 18, I attended the Collège Stanislas de Montréal, which encompasses a French education system. Despite the initial language barriers, ɬ﷬ really knew how to welcome me warmly and it is important for me to give back and put all of my efforts into welcoming the future members of our community. With an intellectual passion for the human body and its functioning, and the dire need to help and advocate for those in necessity, having the chance to study medicine at ɬ﷬ is truly a dream come true.

My hobbies are numerous but top spots have to be awarded to soccer, fishing and travelling. Honourable mentions go to AI model training, computer building and running.

Be it for questions about Cegep transition to Med-P, special requirements for students coming from a French education system school, the medical school experience at ɬ﷬ or any questions related to extracurricular activities, feel free to reach out, it’ll be my absolute pleasure to try to help in the best way possible.

Again, don’t hesitate to reach out for anything and looking forward to meet you all !

Monica

Class of 2028

Languages: English, French
Education: Sciences, lettres et arts (Cégep de l'Outaouais, 2023) Med-P Qualifying Year (ɬ﷬, 2024)

Hello everyone! My name is Monica, and I’m thrilled to serve as one of your Student Ambassadors for the Class of 2028.

I spent my childhood in Mannheim, Germany, before my family settled in the Outaouais region, where I grew up and completed my entire academic journey a place as vibrant and welcoming as the people, I now have the pleasure of studying alongside. Before entering the MDCM program, I completed my Med-P year at the Université du Québec in Outaouais (UQO), where I had the chance to meet and learn from students from all walks of life.

At heart, I’ve always been an artist. Theatre, improvisation, slam poetry, writing, and painting are all creative outlets that shape who I am. When I began studying medicine, I worried that I might have to set this part of myself aside. But I soon realized that art and medicine are more connected than they seem. Both stem from a deep curiosity about humanity and a genuine desire to understand and connect with others. If you share a passion for art and medicine, I’d love to connect with you!

Community involvement has also been central to my journey. I’ve had the privilege of working with several marginalized groups, experiences that have shaped my perspective and reinforced my belief that medicine is, above all, a human encounter. Today, I continue along this path guided by our shared motto: Patient at heart, science in hand.

If you have any questions about the campus, life in Gatineau, or simply what it’s like to study medicine at ɬ﷬, please don’t hesitate to reach out, I’d be more than happy to chat.

Lyne

Class of 2028

Languages: English, French, Arabic (Conversational)
Education: BSc: Honours Psychology (U. Waterloo, 2022), MSc: Integrated Program in Neuroscience (ɬ﷬ U., 2024)

Hi, my name is Lyne and I am so thrilled to be one of your student ambassadors!

I was born in Lyon, France, then moved to Quebec (Gatineau, Laval, Beloeil), then moved back to Lyon, then on to Ontario (Kitchener, Waterloo), and finally landed in Montreal, where I’ve been for the past three years. Being from everywhere wasn’t always easy: while I built resilience and curiosity, I never had a place that I could truly call home. For me, “home” isn’t a house, a city, or a country; it’s my family, friends, and teachers who taught me to be strong and patient.

When I started medical school at ɬ﷬, an upper year peer told me that I would make friends for life and find a community here. At first, I didn’t believe her – having moved constantly, the idea of lifelong friends felt out of reach. But now, I can wholeheartedly say she was right. For the first time, I feel at home.

Being a medical student at ɬ﷬ has been one of my greatest privileges. From hands-on LFME experiences to inspiring lecturers, every block has been fascinating. In parallel to medicine, I also engage in neuroscience and psychiatry research, through which I explore how positive changes in our environment and habits can have long lasting benefits on wellbeing.

Some of my favourite hobbies include playing the piano, running, biking, and baking with friends. Before exams, you can find me experimenting with new cake recipes (putting my French taste buds to work!), composing a little melody on my piano, or running up and down the Lachine canal to get some fresh air!

If you’re nervous about moving to a new city, curious about the Out of Province pathway, considering a master's before medicine, or simply want to chat about baking – I’m your person!

Ling

Class of 2028

Languages: English, French
Education: DEC - Health Sciences (Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf, 2022), Med-P Qualifying Year (ɬ﷬, 2023)

My name is Ling, and I’m honoured to serve as a student ambassador for the class of 2028!

I grew up in Montreal and studied Health Sciences at Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf before entering the Med-P program. My passion for science gradually developed into a strong interest in medicine during CEGEP, which inspired me to pursue medical studies. I feel truly grateful to be at ɬ﷬, where the community is both supportive and motivating, and where it genuinely feels like being part of a big family.

One of the most rewarding parts of my journey has been getting involved in student life. It has given me the chance to meet new people, build lasting connections, and grow alongside peers who share the same motivation and passion for learning.

Outside the classroom, sports have always been an important part of my life. Basketball, in particular, has been a long-standing passion, and I’ve had the privilege of representing the ɬ﷬ Redbirds during my medical studies. Playing on a varsity team has been an unforgettable experience that taught me the value of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance.

I know the application process can sometimes feel overwhelming. I was fortunate to have people who supported and guided me through it, and I hope to do the same for others. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions!

Mathilde

Class of 2028

Languages: English, French
Education: DEC - Health Sciences (Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf, 2021), Bachelor of Medical Science (Université de Montréal, 2024)

Hi! My name is Mathilde, and I’m honoured to serve as a Student Ambassador for the Class of 2028.

A little bit about me: I’m a dog lover from Montreal who finds joy in the small things. Outside of school, I love sports and embracing new challenges. I enjoy running, biking, alpine skiing and hiking. I recently completed a beautiful 5-day trek to Machu Picchu in Peru! I’m also passionate about travelling and discovering new cultures — especially through food (yes, I’m a bit of a foodie too).

Before starting medical school, I completed a bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences at the Université de Montréal. During that time, I conducted research in neonatal pediatrics at CHU Sainte-Justine, focusing on ways to prevent premature birth and support full fetal development in utero.

Why ɬ﷬? Having completed all my previous studies in French, I wanted to step outside my comfort zone and take on a new challenge — and ɬ﷬’s bilingual and supportive environment felt like the perfect place to do that. I know first-hand that studying in a second language can be intimidating, so if you’re feeling unsure about it, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’d be happy to share how I navigated that transition.

I also chose ɬ﷬ for its outstanding program features, such as the anatomy labs and the Transition to Clinical Practice (TCP) component, which make the learning experience truly unique.

The application process can feel overwhelming — I’ve been there! But please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions. I’d be more than happy to support you however I can.

Looking forward to meeting you!

Sabrina

Languages: English, French
Education: DEC Pure & Applied Science (Dawson College, 2020); B. Sc. Anatomy & Cell Biology (ɬ﷬ 2023). One year of neuroscience research in the La Piana Lab, Montreal Neurological Institute.

Hi, my name is Sabrina, and I’m thrilled to be an ambassador from the Class of 2028!

I was born and raised in Montreal and am a proud third generation ɬ﷬ian – the cold winters and hike up to campus everyday weren’t enough to scare me off from another degree here and I’m so lucky to be part of the ɬ﷬ Medicine family!

I followed a somewhat non-traditional path to medicine, switching programs twice while in Cégep and only giving the pursuit of medicine any real consideration once I had already started my undergrad. Since that time though, I’ve never looked back or wavered in my decision that this is exactly where I want to be! The endless guidance and support that I’ve received from my professors, research supervisors, and mentors in an environment that has fostered both personal growth and my sense of intellectual curiosity over my 5 years at ɬ﷬ have undoubtedly played a major role in me being here.

Outside of school, I teach Pilates at a studio downtown and love to bake, my brownies and chocolate chip cookies are probably neck and neck for biggest crowd pleasers. I also love to read and try new restaurants with my friends. While I try my best to rein in the fun, I think the biggest lesson I’ve learned since starting med school is that taking time for hobbies and to try new things will only cultivate a stronger sense of self and make you a better doctor, and I encourage all applicants to keep that in mind when picturing what they want their life to look like when they’re on the other side of this process!

I look forward to helping in any way I can and wish all applicants the best of luck – it’s a tough process but I promise there’s a light at the end of the tunnel!
