Severalmodulesare “plug-ins”,inthattheycan be easilylifted out of the machineand replaced with a differentmodule serving a differentfunction. This machine has an “ECG PREAMP” module and two “DC AMPLIFIER” modules:

The“ECG PREAMP”module(“ECG”=electrocardiogram, “PREAMP”=“preamplifier”)has two channels(hence the origin ofthe name “Twin-Viso”),so that one canobtaina simultaneous recording of any two different “leads” of the ECG.

The lead-selector switch(arrows)allowsselectionof any one of the12 classic ECG leads: standard limb leads I-II-III, augmented extremity limb leadsaVR-aVL-aVF, and chest leads V1-V6. The INSTO control allows recording the ECG trace withouthaving towaitfor the machine’svacuumtubes to warm up, which was important forbeing able tocaptureurgent or fleeting cardiac events.

Theoutput of one preamplifier is sent to one ofthe two D.C.AMPLIFIER modules, whose outputprovideda strong enough signalto drive the two pen recordersontheleftsideof the instrument.
