July 21, 2026 | Nicholas King听has co-authored a new BMJ article, "Artificial intelligence as a new commercial determinant of health," led by Itai Bavli (UBC). The paper proposes a new analytical framework to help identify how commercial actors are using AI to shape health behaviours and the flow of health information. The authors argue that AI is making commercial influence more targeted and harder to detect, from personalised chatbots to algorithm-driven social media feeds.

The Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) has awarded $14 million to 62 涩里番-led projects, including one Partnership Grant, four Partnership Development Grants, and 57 Insight Grants.听 Among the recipients of new Partnership Development grants is the Faculty of Education's Associate Dean, Strategy and Transformation and Associate Professor in the Department of Integrated Studies, Prof. Joseph Levitan.

A new study by a team of 涩里番 researchers could help explain why people who have quit smoking remain at elevated risk of lung disease long after their last cigarette.

Low-intensity green lighting in refrigerated storage can slow spoilage in leafy greens, helping maintain their appearance and nutritional value, according to a new from 涩里番.

The Desautels Faculty of Management has been ranked first in Canada for research output in the 2026 CHART-Index, a new standardized benchmark developed by the University of Calgary's Haskayne School of Business. July 10, 2026 |听Pearl Eliadis听joined Montreal Now with Aaron Rand to unpack a Quebec court ruling on the 12-month mandatory minimum for possession of child sexual abuse material. The court struck down the sentence in the case of a defendant with the cognitive capacity of a child between eight and eleven years old. Eliadis notes the ruling follows a 2025 Supreme Court of Canada decision on the same section of the Criminal Code, and argues that judges need room to weigh individual circumstances because "surely we don't want a one size fits all justice system."
