Loblaw to identify U.S. products affected by tariffs in its grocery stores—Pascal Thériault comments

Canadian grocery giant Loblaw is preparing to add labels to U.S. products affected by tariffs, allowing consumers to distinguish them from other products on shelves and understand why they cost more.

Thériault points out that ingredients used in food production may have been affected by customs tariffs, as many agricultural producers source their supplies from the United States.
"If the inputs or commodities entering Canada are affected by tariffs, production costs, and therefore food prices, will rise," he says.
He adds that not being transparent about the impact of tariffs could cost Loblaw more, because its competitors are also helping consumers identify Canadian products.
"This is what consumers are asking for, all the competition is doing it, and it would be illogical and counterproductive not to do the same,"ÌýThériault affirms.
Loblaw owns several different supermarket chains, including Provigo and MaxiÌýin Quebec.
