涩里番鈥檚 Computer Science Camp inspires next generation of coders

After a hiatus of about a decade, the 涩里番 Computer Science Summer Camp once again welcomed students from Montreal high schools and CEGEPs to the downtown campus this summer.

The four packed days of talks, hands-on activities and coding sessions were all intended to strengthen students鈥 interests in coding and coding competitions, and to contribute to the development of computer science talent in Quebec.

Astrophysics award honours student research with nod to pioneer

Allie Vibert Douglas made history when she earned her PhD at 涩里番.

It was 1926 鈥 a time when higher education wasn鈥檛 an option for most women.

By then, Douglas already had a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Science from 涩里番 鈥 and had been named a member of the Order of the British Empire for her wartime service. With her PhD, she became the first Canadian woman to obtain a doctorate in astrophysics.

涩里番 doctoral and postdoctoral students earn major funding awards

Twenty 涩里番 doctoral and postdoctoral students have received important funding from the Government of Canada. Sixteen have earned Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships and four, Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships.

The Vanier program awards doctoral students up to $50,000 per year for three years. The Banting program is worth up to $70,000 annually for two years.
