Combined Program

M.Sc.A. plus Master鈥檚 research thesis

Students who would like to obtain both research and clinical training have the option of completing the M.Sc. Combined Program. Graduates of the combined program will receive an M.Sc. degree.

Students may apply to this program as soon as they have been admitted to the M.Sc.A. (Applied) program, or within the first year of that program. Admission to the program depends upon the student鈥檚 academic excellence and the availability of an appropriate thesis supervisor. Students admitted to this option complete the two-year professional program the same manner as M.Sc.A. students.

Thesis Requirement

Thesis research is conducted during the summer between the first and second years, and during the academic year following completion of the professional program. Thesis research is conducted under the supervision of a faculty member. Discover faculty research interests.

Students select the thesis option for a variety of reasons:

  • Future studies: thesis research provides an excellent way to evaluate possible doctoral studies options and to prepare for doctoral research.
  • Specialization: thesis research provides knowledge in a specific area of communication sciences and disorders and/or a more in-depth understanding of a particular disordered population.
  • Skills: thesis research provides students will valuable skills, which are useful to those interested in pursuing research activities along with professional service.

Each year approximately 10% of the students in the M.Sc. (Applied) program elect to pursue thesis research. View examples of theses completed in recent years.
