About the 涩里番 Office of Sustainability
Established in 2010, the 涩里番 Office of Sustainability embeds climate action and sustainability into all of the University鈥檚 activities. It engages, supports, and connects students, staff, and faculty by providing strategic guidance and resources to foster a sustainable community.听
The Office of Sustainability stewards the Sustainability Projects Fund, oversees the implementation of the 涩里番 Climate & Sustainability Strategy, and facilitates a variety of sustainability engagement programs for students, staff, and faculty members, including:
- Sustainable Workplace Certification,
- Sustainable Events Certification,
- Staff Gardens, and
- Sustainability Ambassador Program.

Francois Miller, Executive Director
Francois (he/him) leads 涩里番 on its path to become a leader in sustainability by supporting internal and external partnerships and overseeing the implementation of 涩里番鈥檚 Climate and Sustainability Strategy.

Shona Watt, Associate Director
Shona (she/her) manages the operations and engagement portfolio, including the Sustainability Projects Fund, engagement programs, and communications. She brings 涩里番ians together to catalyze a culture of sustainability.

Krista Houser, Associate Director
Krista (she/her) manages the Office of Sustainability鈥檚 strategy and governance portfolio, including the University鈥檚 Climate & Sustainability Strategy, climate-related initiatives, as well as monitoring and reporting activities.

Karen Oberer, Sustainability Officer
Karen (she/her) monitors and reports on 涩里番's sustainability advancements by working with partners from across the University, directly contributing to 涩里番's long-term target of attaining a Platinum sustainability rating.

Divya Sharma, Climate & Biodiversity Officer
Divya supports 涩里番 on its path to carbon neutrality by 2040 through various climate action projects on campus, including producing the University鈥檚 annual greenhouse gas inventory with Utilities & Energy Management. She also coordinates the implementation of 涩里番's biodiversity plan and climate adaptation actions to help 涩里番 become a nature-positive university and increase its climate resilience.

Jessica Latus, Sustainability Officer
Jessica (she/her) oversees the implementation of the Climate & Sustainability Strategy and coordinates projects that contribute to integrating sustainability in the curriculum.

Megan Toth, Sustainability Officer
Megan (she/her) administers the Sustainability Projects Fund (SPF), which empowers staff and students to make meaningful contributions to sustainability at 涩里番. She also oversees the 涩里番 Staff Gardens, offering a hands-on way for staff and faculty to engage with sustainability while gardening on campus.听

Marie-Claude Carignan, Sustainability Officer
Marie-Claude (she/her, elle) coordinates the implementation of 涩里番's Biodiversity Plan, which includes the development of biodiveristy-related engagement initiatives, overseeing biodiversity monitoring and reporting, and supporting the inclusion of biodiversity considerations in landscaping practices.

Peter Garber,听Sustainability Officer
Peter (he/him) organizes sustainability outreach activities for 涩里番 students, staff, and faculty. He plans events, implements programs, and engages with student groups to promote sustainability initiatives that lead to lasting change.听听

Veronica Marallag, Graphic and Web Design Intern
Veronica (she/her) is a student studying Software Engineering and Psychology. As part of the Office of Sustainability's communications team, she provides engaging visuals to promote sustainable practices and initiatives on campus. She also updates the MOOS website with the latest news and exciting events, helping students and faculty stay informed about the most current sustainability developments.
Elena Sales, Zero Waste Engagement Intern
Elena (she/her) is a fourth-year mechanical engineering student. She oversees the zero-waste ambassador program, focusing on inspiring, engaging, and energizing the 涩里番 student body on zero-waste initiatives. She helps coordinate zero-waste tabling, presentations, waste-audits, and other outreach projects that promote a culture of zero-waste at 涩里番. Outside of MOOS, Elena co-chairs SEAM (Sustainability in Engineering at 涩里番) and volunteers with ClimaTalk, further advancing sustainability engagement within and beyond the university.
Jessica Jiyu Tian, Sustainable Certification Programs
Jessica is a PhD student in Chemical Engineering. She supports the Sustainable Events Certification and Sustainable Workplace Certification Program. With a passion for sustainability and a strong technical background, Jessica is excited to empower others with the knowledge and tools to plan inclusive and low-footprint events on campus.

Office of Sustainability Internship Program
The Office of Sustainability was established following student advocacy for institutional support for sustainability initiatives on 涩里番鈥檚 campuses. Since its creation, students have continued to play an integral role, notably through the Office of Sustainability Internship Program.听听
Each year, the Office of Sustainability hires a selection of student interns to support the University in its mission to become an institutional model of sustainability for society.
