The Umoja Student Challenge (2025)

The 涩里番 Africa Umoja Student Challenge empowers young leaders to tackle critical issues in Food Security, Sustainable Agriculture, Public Health, and Policy. Designed as a platform for collaboration and innovation, the challenge fosters discussion and problem-solving for Africa鈥檚 sustainable development. True to the spirit of "Umoja"鈥攗nity and interconnectedness鈥攖his year鈥檚 theme is:聽"Cross-Sector Collaboration for Improved Nutritional Outcomes Using Agricultural Policies in Ghana".聽

February 11th:聽Launch of the Competition聽

February 24th: Team Registration Deadline

March 7th: Submit your team's written proposal to:聽umojasummit [at] mcgill.ca

March 20th: Semi-Finalists are notified

March 26th: Final pitch presentations in-person. The three winning teams receive their prizes.聽

March 27th:聽Finalists are invited to table during the Summit

  • Teams should consist of a maximum of 4 members
  • All members should be current students or recent alumni (max. 1-year post graduation)聽of a recognized university, and at least one member should be based or can physically be聽in Montreal, QC on March 26th.聽聽
  • Once you have identified your team please complete the聽form to register your team.聽Only the team leader should register the team, including everyone's information.聽

Applications should be submitted to umojasummit [at] mcgill.ca no later than noon on March 7th 2025.

  • Submissions should include the following:
    • Written Responses (maximum of 4 pages)
    • Presentation Deck (equivalent to a maximum of 10 minute presentation of your teams findings)

Solutions put forth for the case must cover the following:

  • Innovative Solutions
  • Sustainable Policies聽
  • Scalable with measurable impact frameworks
  • Promote partnerships for implementation
  • Address one or more sustainable development goal (SDG).聽聽聽
