Who we are

In 1925, the Scarlet Key Society was founded at ɬÀï·¬ to serve as hosts and guides for visiting dignitaries. Today, as a constituent group of the ɬÀï·¬ Alumni Association, student leadership and academic achievement is the cornerstone of the Society, represented through the introduction of the Scarlet Key Award. The mission of the Scarlet Key Society comprises leadership recognition, service to ɬÀï·¬ and the community, and maintaining an active membership.

What we do

The Scarlet Key Society recognizes exceptional student leaders who demonstrate extraordinary commitment to their peers and community at the annual Pinning Ceremony. An application period opens each Spring and recipients are chosen following a robust selection process by members of the Scarlet Key Society leadership team.

In addition, the Scarlet Key Society organizes events to bring together existing and new recipients of the Scarlet Key, continuing an important ɬÀï·¬ tradition that emphasizes the leadership traits characterized by holders of the Scarlet Key.

Get involved 

To be eligible, candidates must:

  • Complete at least one year of full-time studies with satisfactory results or are a ɬÀï·¬ graduate.
  • Demonstrate excellence, leadership, dedication and perseverance.
  • Undertake a significant project that demonstrates a positive impact.

Application guidelines (PDF)

If you hold a Scarlet Key:

  • Consider a governance role on the Executive team and help organize networking events, professional development opportunities or the Pinning Ceremony.
  • Participate in professional, social and service activities organized by the Scarlet Key Society.
  • Encourage the student leaders you know to apply to become a Key.
