Black History Month 2025: Opening Ceremony

The 2025 edition of Black History Month at 涩里番 focuses on spaces and design and their significance to Black communities, while also offering a diverse selection of events, as always. It begun with the opening ceremony on Thursday, February 6, 2025, from 5:00-8:00pm.

The keynote address was delivered by architect Shane Laptiste, a 涩里番 graduate who is the principal and co-founder of the award-winning, Toronto-based Studio of Contemporary Architecture (SOCA). Please click on the link below to watch the video.

2025 BHM 涩里番 Community Events

Black History Month aims to celebrate, honour, increase knowledge, and amplify the voices of Black communities by recognizing their rich history and achievements, fostering connection, and bringing together 涩里番 students, staff, and faculty, and alumni and members within and beyond the Montreal community.聽

Recent news


涩里番 is on land which has long served as a site of meeting and exchange amongst Indigenous peoples, including the Haudenosaunee and Anishinabeg nations. We acknowledge and thank the diverse Indigenous peoples whose presence marks this territory on which peoples of the world now gather.
