Foundational Dialogue on Indigenous Food Sovereignty: Decolonizing the Narrative of Indigenous Food Systems

This webinar was hosted by the Ărramăt Pathway T1: Strengthening Indigenous Food Systems. It explored Indigenous Food Sovereignty as a decolonizing framework and as a pathway toward self-determined food systems.  The dialogue aimed to build shared understanding, identify conceptual and practical gaps, and highlights opportunities for co-creation.

  • Ines Sebai, PhD candidate in Nutrition, Université de Montréal, and a member of the Canada Research Chair in Nutrition and Health Inequalities (CIENS). presenting her collaborative work with T1 on decolonizing the narrative of Indigenous Food Sovereignty.
  • Treena Delormier, PhD, PDt, Associate Professor, School of Human Nutrition, ɬ﷬. A leading researcher in Indigenous nutrition and health.
  • Chris Furgal, PhD, Professor, Chanie Wenjack School for Indigenous Studies, Trent University. An environmental health scholar working with Arctic Indigenous Peoples.

Moderator:

  • Alejandro Argumedo, Quechua agronomist from Peru with over 25 years of experience working with Indigenous peoples, small-scale farmers, and international institutions.
