Dr. Stefanie Blain-Moraes named by World Ecocomic Forum as 2017 Young Scientist

Dr. Stefanie Blain-Moraes was named by the World Economic Forum (WEF) as a 2017 Young Scientists. The award recognized 55 young scientists under 40 recently at the WEF conference in Dalian, China. The awardees hailed from 38 academic institutions in 18 countries, and all were invited to attend a special Meeting of the New Champions at the conference.

Congrats to Sarah C. Marshall, Elected President of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association!

Sarah C. Marshall, Director鈥檚 Academic Associate and PT faculty member at the School of Physical and Occupational Therapy (SPOT), has been elected the 60th President of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA). Her term runs from June 2017 to June 2019. The CPA is a not-for-profit professional association that serves over 14,000 Canadian physiotherapists, physiotherapyassistants, physical rehabilitation therapists and physiotherapy students from across Canada.

Dr. Carol L. Richards, SPOT Alumna, presented Ordre National du Qu茅bec

SPOT alumna and past Edith Aston-McCrimmon Lecturer (2013), Dr. Carol Richards, wasrecently given the 鈥榟ighest distinction awarded by the government of Qu茅bec鈥 by being named to theOrdre National du Qu茅bec. This June, Dr. Richards was one of 33 individuals named by PremierPhilippe Couillard to one of three ranks of the National order, with a ceremony held at the LegislativeCouncil Chamber of the Parliament Building. Prof. Susanne Mak was awarded a FRQSC Doctoral Grant, as well as the Class of 鈥77 MedEd Innovation Grants Program grant for her project named 鈥淪takeholders鈥 perspectives towards the 涩里番 OT mentoring program.鈥 Funding of the MedEd Innovation Grant is designed to support the development and evaluation of educational innovations that advance the field of Health Professions education.

Stroke Recovery

Dr. Marie-H茅l猫ne Boudrias has been awarded a Brain Canada Foundation grant to support her work in exploring why some people recover better than others after a stroke. This research has shown that recuperative capacity is often underestimated, therefore this work will be crucial in discovering how to better predict rehab potential.

KT in Medicine

Dr. Aliki Thomas has been awarded an RCPSC Royal College strategic grant. At the core of the success of competency-based medical education is the assessment of developmental progress and the identification of potential facilitators茅barriers that could affect its implementation. As Co-PI, Dr. Thomas and her team will lay the foundation for robust knowledge translation activities that she will aim to pursue in a subsequent study.

Dr. Janaudis-Ferreira in the News

Dr. Tania Janaudis-Ferreira is part of a team of investigators to whom CIHR (Project Scheme Competition) has been awarded support to conduct a multi-centric trial to determine whether a supervised home-based exercise program combined with a protein supplementation is beneficial in improving physical function in frail older adults recovering from transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).
