Reusable Half-Face & Full-Face Respirator Training & Quantitative Fit Testing

Quantitative fit testing uses a specialized machine to quantify ambient airborne particulates to measure the leakage of a respirator on the user. This will allow the machine to identify a fit factor to determine whether the respirator shape and size is appropriate for the user. EHS uses quantitative fit testing for reusable half-face and full-face respirators only. This course is not intended for those who require N95 fit testing.听

Please review the following information and the registration steps below:

Target Audience:鈥� All staff and students who require the use of a reusable elastomeric鈥痳espirator while performing activities at 涩里番. This course provides Quantitative Fit Testing for鈥痳eusable鈥痜ull-face鈥痑nd鈥痟alf-face respirators,鈥痷sing鈥痑 machine听called a听PortaCount听to measure the leakage into a respirator.

Duration:鈥� 2 hours听(approximate)听

Certification:鈥� Fit Test听certificates听are鈥� valid for听up to听2 years. 鈥疉 hard copy, wallet sized certificate is provided to the participant.听

Cost:鈥� $125鈥痜or an in-person Fit Test, payable by FOAPAL.听Students鈥� must reach out to their department administration so that the department may provide the FOPAL directly to鈥�rpp.ehs [at] mcgill.ca.听

Location:鈥� 3610 McTavish, room 430听

Additional Information: 鈥疘n order to听ensure a proper seal with the respirator, the user must be鈥痗lean shaven鈥痑nd long hair must be tied back. Facial piercings and jewelry may also need to be removed.听

Do not听purchase any equipment prior to attending the Fit Test.鈥疎HS has听3M, Honeywell/North and MSA听reusable respirator听models听available for fit testing. If you have a different make, it may not be possible to have your respirator fit-tested.鈥�

If applicable, bring your current respirator and any other Personal Protective Equipment you need to wear that might interfere with your respirator to the Fit Test session.听

Registration steps:听

  1. 涩里番 students, staff and faculty鈥� must鈥� complete the online course and exam using the鈥�EHS Safety Training System - Web Training.鈥� Passing grade is听80%鈥�

  1. You must complete the鈥��痑nd return it to鈥�rpp.ehs [at] mcgill.ca (subject: Health%20Validation%20Form) 鈥� before your Fit Test appointment.听IMPORTANT:听if 鈥榊es鈥� is answered to any of the questions in Section 2, then the user must have Section 3 completed by a physician before EHS is able to fit test you.听

DISCLAIMER:鈥� If you can鈥檛 attend your scheduled fit test session, you must formally cancel a minimum of 48 hours prior to the course's scheduled time to avoid听the fit test fee听charged听to your FOAPAL.听
