Mentorship Pairing Program

The Mentorship Pairing Program connects upper-year PhD students and postdoctoral fellows with ɬÀï·¬ faculty mentors from different academic disciplines. In one-on-one conversations, participants can explore career possibilities, expand their professional networks, and gain perspectives on academic life from experienced faculty members.

Designed to complement the support provided by supervisors and departmental colleagues, the program creates space for open discussion about career goals, professional growth, and the transition from graduate or postdoctoral training to the next stage of an academic career.

What to Expect

Each mentor-mentee pair meets at least twice per semester, either virtually or in person. Conversations are shaped by the mentee's interests and goals, and may include topics such as:

  • Academic career planning
  • Job application and interview preparation
  • Professional identity and leadership
  • Teaching and service responsibilities
  • Building professional networks
  • Navigating challenges and opportunities in academia

Because mentors and mentees are matched across disciplines, participants benefit from perspectives that extend beyond their immediate academic environment.

Building Meaningful Connections

At its core, the Mentorship Pairing Program is about fostering relationships that support professional growth, encourage reflection, and strengthen connections across the University. By bringing together faculty members, doctoral students, and postdoctoral scholars from different disciplines, the program helps create a more connected and supportive academic community.
