A new international study offers insights into the health risks posed by crops鈥 absorption of 鈥渃ontaminants of emerging concern鈥 (CECs) and flags knowledge gaps the authors say must be addressed.

CECs include pharmaceuticals, microplastics, engineered nanomaterials and PFAS (commonly known as 鈥渇orever chemicals鈥). The researchers warn that even when present at very low concentrations, these chemicals can subtly alter plant physiology, disrupt soil health and pose wider environmental and human health risks.

Soaring stock prices boosted returns at major Canadian pension plans, even as a slowdown in private equity weighed on overall performance at funds like the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan. "Valuations are high, so there is a risk of investing in listed equities at their peak," says Betermier, an associate professor of finance at 涩里番 Desautels.听听

March 26, 2026 | As questions grow around how systemic discrimination is assessed in Quebec, Pearl Eliadis spoke to CBC News about the realities of bringing forward race-based complaints in the workplace. She notes that the burden of proof remains very high, particularly in cases where discrimination unfolds through subtle, cumulative interactions. Eliadis underscores the importance of documenting experiences in real time and seeking legal advice early, pointing to broader concerns about how such cases are investigated and the barriers individuals face in having them recognized.
