Minors who are under 17 years of age

  1. The age of majority in Quebec is 18. However,only minors under 17are required to have a legal custodian.
  2. Therefore,If you will not be 17years old by the time you travel to Canada, you must have a legal custodian in Montreal before starting immigration procedures to study at ɬ﷬.
  3. A custodian is a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada who is at least 18 years old and resides with you or within a reasonable distance from you.

Case 1: You have a Custodian in Montreal

Ifhave a custodian in Montreal, please follow the instructions provided in the by Immigration Quebec.

Case 2: You DO NOT have a Custodian in Montreal

If you do nothave a custodian in Montreal,you are required to live in ɬ﷬ Student Residences, and request to have the Dean of Students act as your custodian.

  1. Apply online for your Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ) through .

  2. Once your online CAQ application has been submitted, you will receive a CAQ personalized checklist with a CAQ application number (6 digit number) found on the top right-hand corner of the checklist.

  3. Complete the Custodian Request Letter and Passport Confidentiality Form

    1. You must fill out all fields in the letter and include your CAQ application number. Incomplete letters and forms will not be processed.
    2. The Custodianship Request Letter must be signed by both parents.
    3. The Passport Confidentiality Form must be signed by the student.
  4. Send the completed documents to ISS using the following steps:

    1. Scan and send (in PDF format) your Custodianship Request Letterwith both parents’ original signaturesand Passport Confidentiality Form with your signature.
    2. Send it to ouroffice by submitting a request through ourmyISS Request Form.
    3. In the"Please provide details" section, make sure to write:“Custodianship Request Letter”.
  5. Once we receive your Custodianship Request Letter and Passport Confidentiality Form:
    1. We will process it and send you the Custodianship Acknowledgement Letter signed by theDean of Studentsas well as the Dean of Students'passportwithin 10business days.
    2. After you have received the signed Custodianship Acknowledgement Letter andDean of Students' passport, please ensurethat you complete the mandatory (online webform).
  6. Submit the originalCustodianship Request Letter and the Custodianship AcknowledgementLetter signed bytheDean of Students' as well as thePassport Confidentiality Formwith the supporting documents for your CAQ application. Please make sure to keep a copy of these documents foryour Study Permit Application.
